How to implement a Growth Coaching Mindset in your business (and life).

The growth mindset is one of the most famous coaching models in the world. However, people don't understand the deep meaning behind it and how you should implement it in your business (and life).

A coaching growth mindset stands for a belief that each person in our world can develop and become better in any skill or ability if you put the effort and consistency towards that.

It means that we can learn from our challenges and mistakes and become better every single day.

All this perhaps sounds interesting.

But how you can implement it in your life?

It's easy to talk about it but challenging to accept it in your specific situations. Also, the reason why it's become so hard to take a growth mindset approach, especially in a business environment, is because some mentors don't understand its meaning either. For them, it's more about motivation and less about practical change.

So, a growth mindset around us is more about meaningless sayings like "You can do it!" or "Just try harder, and you will get it."

When in reality, it doesn't help you make a change.

People need motivation. But more importantly, they need specific steps on how they can make the change that they want… Motivation without guidelines or feedback isn't enough.

Also, if we talk about motivation, the best motivation is always internal and not cheerleading from our environment.

How can you adopt a real growth mindset?

Adopting a growth mindset is having a belief that yes... Right now, you aren't good enough at what you are trying to accomplish.

The key is saying to yourself: "I'm not good at that yet.."

This simple word "yet" makes all the difference.

I'm not good at math yet...

I'm not good at writing yet...

I'm not making 10K yet...

When you communicate with yourself in this simple way, you teach your brain to think about new ideas and actions that you can do. It's putting you in a process vibe, a growth vibe.

Here are some simple steps on how you can practice a growth mindset in your life:

1. Look for challenges.

Don't try to avoid difficulties with any cost. Stretch yourself. If you will analyze your life, you will see that your most significant growth in the past was during challenging times.

The thing is. You don’t have to wait for hard times to create a challenge. It’s better to grow slowly but every day.

2. Learn from mistakes.

I know that it's written everywhere... And maybe it's annoying to hear that again.

For me, the best thing to deal with mistakes is to ask myself: "How can I do it better next time?" Not to overanalyze each step. But simply to ask how I could do it better.

3. Ask for feedback.

Constructive feedback from others who can give you suggestions can boost your growth.

It doesn't mean that you should listen and implement everything. It's more about increasing awareness and having a bigger picture of your situation.

4. Stay curious.

Ask questions and be open. When everything is hard, a good question can be: "Hmm, what will happen next?". Being curious about the life itself is the key.

  • Try playing with the word "yet" when you notice that you say to yourself you can't do something.

Rephrase it to: "I can't do it yet..."

  • Try the 4 simple steps of the Growth Mindset to increase your possibilities.

P.S. Working with a coach or a consultant can help develop a growth mindset. I have an article, “Coaching vs. Consulting vs. Therapy. How to use them in your career”. You can read it »here«.

Let me know how it goes.

Take care,

Alex
