5 ways to eliminate loneliness & boost your serotonin level."

Hey,

It’s Alex.

Living a modern lifestyle can be lonely…

Too much time in front of the screen and a few real human connections. All this, with time, can lead to challenges that aren't easy to solve alone.

One of the important chemicals in our brain that plays a pivotal role in mood regulation is serotonin.

This neurotransmitter and social behavior is often described as the body's natural "feel-good" chemical.

Loneliness can lead to a decrease in serotonin levels, contributing to feelings of depression and social isolation.

So, the more you support your current “problematic” lifestyle, the harder it becomes to make the changes for a better life.

At some point in my online marketing career, I got to the point of 90% of self-isolation. I didn’t have the awareness I needed to wake up and change my daily routines.

The things that are written below came from my personal experience dealing with loneliness and the challenging lifestyle of a solopreneur.

So how can you feel more connected, have fulfilled social life, and, in general, feel more happy?

Everything is about our serotonin level.

Here are the ways how you can boost your serotonin level:

1. Boost your social connections.

Start socializing again.

  • Have a drink with an old friend.

  • Volunteer helping a nonprofit organization.

  • Schedule a coffee with other remote workers.

In the end, it’s just taking your phone and sending a few messages. Step by step, the spark of spending time with others will come back.

2. Move your body.

  • Morning stretching.

  • Take a walk in nature.

  • Join a sports group class.

  • Hire a 1-on-1 fitness coach to keep you accountable.

It doesn’t matter how or what you do as long you are active.

Important: Whatever you choose, it's supposed to bring you joy. It's about experimenting to find what is your unique way that actually sticks to your lifestyle.

3. Connect with animals.

Just try... There is no need to go wild & immediately adopt a pet and make an enormous commitment.

  • Try cat cafes.

  • Have a friend with a pet? Give him a visit.

  • Spend some time in a local animal shelter.

4. Experience something new.

Try doing something that you never did before.

  • Try going on a trip with new friends.

  • New places, smells, or nature (outside of your home).

  • Find a co-working space with good & open-minded people.

  • Try Co-living and make a plan with whom you'll stay & hang out.

New sensations and new experiences can bring new ways of thinking and perspective.

5. Consider professional help.

If nothing helps. And you still spend most of the time at home and find yourself burning time, and nothing changes.

Consult a mental health professional, such as a therapist or counselor.

It can help you get support and address any underlying "blind spots" you may not be realizing. There is always something you can try to make your situation better.

Another extreme thing that is sometimes good to do is to say, “F**k everything!” And reevaluate all your lifestyle — each part of your life.

Consider a change in career if you feel unfulfilled or unhappy in your current place. It doesn't matter how much you earn if you are miserable!

Maybe living in a foreign country for some time and immersing yourself in a new culture. It’s never too late. And there is nothing more important than your mental health.

Take care

Alex
