How to master your time like a pro?

Hey,

It’s Alex.

There are so many things we all can do during our day.

The modern world offers an endless abundance of activities. And yet, the biggest challenge that my readers share is the lack of time.

No time for hobbies, family, sports, etc.

It's a big problem today, and it doesn’t seem likely to get better unless AI takes over and saves us from the chaotic world.

Until then…

Let me share with you an insight that may change your perspective on time management in general…

… And maybe you will not have anymore lack of time at all.

The best way to do it is with a story about my friend, Tom, from Croatia.

It's not a typical success story about someone who somehow "has it all."

When I met Tom, he already had two kids and a successful online business. We met weekly for a coffee, talking about business, life and having a good time.

One day, Tom told me that he and his wife were expecting a third child. I was so happy for them! I knew already that he was a great father and had a deep love for kids.

Then, the pandemic hit the world.

Lockdown…

Many businesses got hurt worldwide, including Tom's.

After trying many times to save his business, Tom decided to sell it to sustain his family and to have enough money for his newborn child.

Since he sold his business, found a local job, and had a new kid, we started to see each other less and less…

Tom needed to decide whether to spend 2 hours with his kids or have a weekly friendly coffee with me. Tom chose to spend time with the kids (and I would do exactly the same).

We are still good friends and keep in contact from time to time. However, we met less often than before, not because we didn't want to, but because our priorities changed.

And when priorities change, the way how we spend time also changes.

I'm sure you've heard this statement: "We all have 24 hours per day."

The meaning behind this is that we all have 24 hours to spend.

The deeper meaning of that is we all have the power to prioritize HOW and on WHAT we gonna spent our time. Like Tom…

When I hear in a coaching session from my client:

"I don't have time,"

I like to ask: "You don't have time for what?"

Because you are the one who chooses how to spend your time.

If not you, who is choosing for you?

Kids? Boss? Your partner? Your bank?

And if you are the one who chooses to spend your time in some way, where exactly is the problem?

The problem is that we want more…

More from our time and from our life in general.

We see colorful, beautifully edited Instagram videos when our reality can be “grey and boring.

We want more. And there is no time for this "more" in the modern crazy world.

More time for:

  • Hobbies

  • Reading a book

  • Going for a short solo trip.

  • A normal sleep routine (having a kid’s challenge…)

You name it… It doesn’t matter what. There is no time for that.

But who is the one responsible for having additional time for that?

For example, I chose to live in a more affordable country for a few years exactly for this purpose. Having more time for these extra things that were important to me.

Things that made my life colorful.

The biggest challenge with time isn’t the amount of it. It’s not even a time problem. It’s a priorities problem.

What is it that you are prioritizing in your life that prevents you from living your colorful life?

We all have challenges with priorities when we don't know what we want or understand what we need.

In this reality, time just slips through our hands like sand on the beach…

Because if we don’t know what we want = we are not motivated to do challenging things that will help us grow and live meaningful lives.

If we don’t understand what we need = we become easy prey for cheap dopamine pleasures.

Overconsumption of TV shows, social media, video games, etc. You name it. Your “drug” of escaping reality. Mine is movies…. I love them!

Time will be spent on something anyway, even if deep inside, we don't want that. Because we didn’t learn our needs.

No one wants to be overweight, watching serials the whole day, or playing video games. This lifestyle comes into our lives like a coping mechanism with a pain that we are running away from. This is the toughest truth…

When you know what you want:

  • From your day

  • From your partner

  • From your life in general

When you understand your needs:

  • Social needs

  • Financial needs

  • Health needs

You are mastering your time like a pro.

Saying NO to distractive activities becomes natural as you deeply and honestly know what you want and know how to spend your time.

Procrastination also doesn’t bother you so much because you listen to your internal and physical needs and don’t burn yourself to the limits.

And, of course, it isn’t about perfectionism. It’s about being an imperfect human.

P.S. I'm reminding you that I still have a spot for 1:1 Ontological Coaching with me.
