Simple guide how to spot a "fake" coach online.
Most coaches online are not coaches at all. And sometimes, they can create new problems instead of helping with the old ones. Here is a simple guide to spotting a "fake" coach online:
During my coaching education, what I realized is:
Most coaches online are not coaches at all… And sometimes, they can create new problems instead of helping with the old ones.
Here is a simple guide to spotting a "fake" coach online:
I'm studying what is called "Ontological coaching." This coaching method helps people change and grow by focusing on how they use:
Emotions
Language
And physical behaviors
It's all about changing how people see and interact with the world to improve their actions and results.
This method isn’t a therapy. In fact, a coach isn't allowed to do therapy in any circumstances.
But there is no regulation in the industry. So right now, anyone can call themselves a coach and start working with people when they don't have any official education or certification.
The worldwide recognized certifications are:
International Coach Federation (ICF)
Associate Certified Coach (ACC)
Center for Executive Coaching (CEC)
European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC)
Why it's a problem when there is no regulation?
When you base your coaching methods only on your life experience. And you are working with complete confidence that you are going to help...
You actually can hurt.
Example: If you cry with your coachee on a session, you are useless. You are wasting his time and money...
For sure, he will feel how empathic you are. But you didn't do your job like a coach. You didn't put a "seed" for a change. You didn't create the mind shift the person was coming for.
The biggest misunderstanding in the coaching industry is that most of the coaches are not coaches at all.
They are MENTORS.
A real certified coach will NEVER give you any advice. He isn't going to tell you what to do in your specific situation.
He can:
Ask questions
Inspire with stories
Mirror your beliefs
Give effective assignments
But he isn't going to give you HIS SUBJECTIVE opinion what should you.
Mentor instead...
Going to guide you step by step from his life experience. He will mentor you in relationships, business, sports, etc... A mentor will give you advice, tips, and life hacks. And for sure, a good mentor can be effective in many situations.
So what does a coach do?
A real coach is a professional that you are coming to when NOTHING else is working for you... It is when you try to listen to so many mentors. But their subjective experience didn’t work for you. Or, in fact, you can't even implement their advice.
Because, in most cases, it isn't about the "tools" or life hacks.
It’s more about YOU.
Mentors don't know how to work specifically with you. They know how to give you a system that works for them. Do you understand now why MOST of the digital programs and courses are not working?
So if you want to make a change in your life in any area like:
Sport
Health
Business
Relationships
Think twice before entering any program or mentoring session. Because you can get different results from what you expected.
Take care,
Alex
